An engineering evolution: configurator for I/O modules

Automation and system solutions for the energy, industrial, and maritime sectors—that's the world of Bachmann. With the development of its new hardware generation, the M100 series, Bachmann is also taking its associated engineering solution to the next level: The new module configurator offers developers an intuitive and flexible solution that makes hardware configuration easier than ever before.

We took a close look at the Bachmann module and found out what makes it tick: Insights gained from intensive user research enabled us to replace the heavily hardware-centric approach with an information-centric way of working. Thanks to the new focus on the signal list—a list of all electronic signals occurring in a project—the time-consuming configuration of inputs and outputs on individual hardware modules is now a thing of the past.

The new look offers a high density of information while remaining intuitive. Thanks to a flexible layout with side-by-side views and a clear visual hierarchy that brings the information to be processed to the forefront, developers always have an eye on the essentials.

An expandable navigation concept ensures intuitive operation across the entire application and enables error-free working. Functions such as assigning signals to matching hardware modules via drag & drop or bulk processing of signals provide an additional boost in efficiency.

The flexible new design library is designed to simplify the development of future applications – and will still be functioning visually and technically in 20 years' time. In order to maintain full control over the library and do justice to the specialized domain, we developed it from scratch according to atomic design principles.
